Out of the Loop

Josh, I don't know what this is all about, or even if you are talking about the Nate I am thinking of, but it might be nice if you informed me.

Next of all, welcome back, I am glad to see you have stopped being lazy. No, I didn't write for you, I wrote for me. Because I enjoyed it and my friends enjoyed it. Don't complain about it being girly because a) it's not that girly, b) you were the one being lazy, and c) you invited me.

And do I remember you saying something to the effect of "you can have the blog, I don't want to do it anymore."? I think so. Let me reiterate that I don't write for you, I am not a guest blogger to fill-in for your absences, I am a regular contributor. The girl you asked to help you.

aww here it goes.

Well to air on the side of caution as to avoid sounding totally pomas, arrogant, and clueless all at the same time I will make this quite simple and easy as can be....... wait wait hold on my dog's chewing up my sock hold on. Ok Im back now lets see where was I? lemme see pompas, arrogant, dog sock, OH now I rember to be as nice as I can I will not express my true notions of some of your opinions upon this space for the sheer fact that this site was not created for that purpose but for something entirly different but that can be disscused in person Face to face, Hermono to Hermona, Man to Woman UCC TO Bap... You get the idea.

Dancing Queen, Young and Sweet, Only 17

Me before prom. Posted by Hello

I'm still a bit tired out from prom. Yesterday, as I have said, was a day of hurry hurry hurry. Nails, hair, makeup. But by the end of it all, I felt so pretty! Yes, this is girly and stupid, but you know what, I don't care. I felt very pretty in my dress. My hair looked really nice with my dress, it was a very 'throwback" look. My makeup looked very nice, much better than I could have done it. And to top it off, I had a great time!

Pictures and such started at 5 and our dinner reservations were at 6:30. We (Lindsay & Beth, Eric & Tiffany, Ron & I) took a limo to prom. It was so fun because neither my date, Ron, or I have ever been in a limo. We went and ate at a fancy restaurant. I ate there last year for before prom and it was packed, this year it wasn't to crowded, which was nice.

After dinner we headed right over to prom. We got there right at 8:00pm and we luckily didn't have to wait in line to get our pictures made. Then it was time to cut a rug! Actually, I am not a dancer. It probably would be scary if I were to dance, I would rather not make a fool of myself. I did dance a little, but mostly I talked, visited friends and teachers, and looked out for the worst/nastiest dancing award. If you were there you probably have your own award to hand out. Ron and I did request the Chicken Dance, though. It's a dance favorite, and last year they didn't play it! Everyone was dancing, I mean, who doesn't do the chicken dance? Everyone knows it, and you know that everyone looks stupid (not just you). There was a bit of white-boy break dancing at the end which wasn't too bad. Good job break-dancers, it was very impressive!

What else happened? No one dancing with a chair or carrying our principle, Dr. Crowell, into the middle of a bunch of dancing girls.....like last year. Overall, it seemed like there were fewer people there this year, both teachers and students. I do with more teachers had come. That is part of the fun, seeing your teachers all dressed up and talking to them. But oh well, I still had fun.

Afterward, we went back to Beth's house and had cheesecake! Then we played Halo, or more like 4 of the 6 in our group played Halo while Beth and I slept. We were woken up sometime around 2 to finish off cheesecake and Mexican dip. We watched what can be called a
"jumpercise" workout video from the 80's were everyone wore leotards and bounced on mini-trampolines. It was really funny at 3am. Later came the beginning of a Disney movie but we were shooed upstairs away from the guys and told to go to sleep sometime around 4am. We work up late that day and at breakfast around 11 and then sat around and later went to our favorite restaurant, Golden Corral, for lunch.

Other than my feet hurting, it was fun. I am so glad I got to go to prom with all my friends! It was awesome. Thanks Ron for going with me! I hope everyone had a great time too!

See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the dancing queen.

Cute, huh?

Get Ready, Get Set, GO!

So tomorrow is prom. Yep, that means all the hard work I have put into it will all be over in a mere 4 hours. Well, I guess it is longer than that, with all the pictures we have to take...and the going out to dinner part.

Oh, and those memories I will have for the rest of my life.

In all seriousness, I am really excited and I'm sure I will have as much fun as last year (which was tons). It is, though, a lot of work.

See, boys just don't understand. Sure a tux is expensive to rent, probably as much as a dress but you don't get to keep it. And the guy is probably paying for dinner...but they get to sleep in late that morning. The girls, now there is some work. Lets take my schedule for example: At 9am I must be at my nail appointment for a pedicure and a manicure. Sort break till 1:30 when I go get my hair done. The last thing is makeup at 3:30. Run home, put on that dress that I spent a few hours picking out, and be ready just in time for my date to show up for pictures.

And then their is the dress. Ah, the dress that was perfect when I bought it suddenly didn't fit this week. When we bought this dress both my mom and I were excited about the fact that it wouldn't have to be shortened because it was a petite. No, I didn't grow. Something shrank. Inexplicably, the halter strap was suddenly too long. The strap wasn't just any strap either, it is a sheer/mesh material. My mom and I, being the sewing gurus that we are, had no clue if we could sew this material or not. Thank goodness Mrs. Frazier, my Advanced Foods and pervious Apparel teacher, was there to fix it. Mrs. Frazier, if you are reading this (haha), THANK YOU SO MUCH! She pinned and shortened the strap for me so now it fits like I (and everyone else) wants it to.

So now that everything is in place, i.e. my dress and appointments, tomorrow should be a relaxing, fun day, right? Lets hope so. At least I don't have to do my own hair (ponytails are dressy, right?), makeup, and nails. And I just love seeing everyone dressed up. All your teachers and classmates look nice, and you feel pretty as well. I'm looking forward to dinner too, and spending the night at a friends house. Then it is back to "slumpy-Monday," the Monday after prom where, at least in comparison, no one looks nice.

I am looking forward to the getting ready part, actually. Except for that waking up early thing.

See some of you at prom!

Playing Opossum

I'm back! Yay. You will find my hiatuses generally correspond with some English essay. I felt so much better when I handed in my essay on Friday, even though on Thursday she had given us and extension (till Monday). I was relieved that it was finished, done, and I could look forward to a half-relaxing weekend. I mean, didn't have to work at all on Friday. I only had three morning classes to teach on Saturday and two parties on Sunday (I coach gymnastics and lead birthday parties at a gym, just so you don't wonder). Yeah, that would have been nice if it worked out that way. I was called to work on Friday, despite my attempt to find someone else for them to call, then I worked a party after my classes today. There has been no rest, and that stinks. And this is really boring for you to read.....

On Friday I had a weird high school/
"Throwin' rocks" experience. There was an opossum wandering around outside the school down one breeze-way. My Astronomy class decided to go outside to look at it seeing as we might glance at the sky while we were out there....or something space-y. Well, the opossum made it pretty far down the breeze-way and as we went to see it, some boys came running past us. One boy had kicked the opossum and made 2 of its babies fall out! (I would like to take this time to say that that was really mean and cruel and one of the baby's legs was broken) So our astronomy class tried to corral the mother, but she got away without her babies. We ended up picking up these animals (probably not safe) and putting them in a cage. They were so cute! We learned all about opossums Friday. Did you know that baby opossums can't have cow milk? If you decide to save any opossums in the future, you should give them pedialite, or warm gatoraid. And if they have fur and open eyes (like our 2 babies) you can give them grapes, which I actually had with me that day for lunch.

That was a pretty weird class. Once we got back to the room and put them in a cage we called around and got them a new home at the vet in Welcome. Don't worry, they should be ok. I learned a few things that day: opossums can run really, really quickly (contrary to what the side of the road seems to say) opossums are really cute when they are little, and they don't want to take the Hamlet tests (I'm sure that is what their hissing ment when my English teacher asked them if they would like to take the test). Overall, I just can't believe someone would kick an animal. Infact, I don't think I would want to be getting that close to a nocturnal animal that was out in the middle of the day. Germs, disease, infection!

Ok, so this hasn't been the most enthraling entry, but I knew it had been a while. I am seriously trying hard to keep my eyelids up. Hopefully, I will have some time to post something tomorrow between church and work. What is really exciting is that tomorrow, a prospective minister is coming. He is gonna preach this Sunday and next, but next week is my prom so I don't know if I will make it. After that, we get to vote as a church, and then he either accepts or rejects. I hope that he stays, our poor interum minister has been here over a year... and he retired before I was even born!

Ok, off to bed, really this time.

PS--Carey just reported that she actually saw an opossum run across the road and survive! Amazing!

PPS--"Nate: emily, your blog totally rocks" Thanks Nate!

The Slacker That I Am

I really did mean to write something earlier today, but I had to work unexpectedly. And then I had homework for English that I hadn't done (or started) yet. See, Friday and Saturday I spent at Guilford College for "Spring into Guilford" orientation. It was really nice to say the least. I am so excited about going there next year. There were all types of people there and everyone was so friendly. It wasn't hard to talk to anyone and I met people from all over (Connecticut, New York, New Mexico, Utah). I only met one perspective student from North Carolina, and she happened to be from Central Davidson High School. It was awesome to be in a place where everyone was friendly with everyone and no one was left out.

Friday I went by myself, but Saturday my dad went with me. The longer he stayed there, the less he liked it. But he has realized that is where I am going, and I like it there, so I think he will be ok. The first thing that bothered him was Guilford's sorry football stadium. I don't play football, so I wasn't too concerned (although, I wouldn't go to a school without football). My father became a bit worried with the liberalness of the school, but maybe he will work through it.

I took placement testing on Saturday morning. I placed out of math for my liberal arts requirement, but I will still have to take a math for my major in Education studies. Another think I learned is that I will be double majoring in Education studies and another subject (History?). Guilford requires this of all education majors. I, unfortunately didn't place out of Spanish. So I will be taking Spanish 101, Developmental Psyc, an English, and an First Year Experience (F.Y.E.) course. For my FYE course, my first choice is "I Read It In a Book: On Truth and Knowing" it's about the influence books and media have on people (incase anyone wants to know, my second choice is simply "Global Issues"). Hopefully, I will get my first choice. If I do, I won't have any Friday classes (that's a good time for a job!).

Alright, I would love to tell you more (and I probably will) but it is late and I got school.

The United Church of Christ

Yes, I am a United Church of Christ (UCC) member. I thought it was a rip-off when the networks banned our commercial. As a business, they have the power to decide what they want to show and what they don't, and I understand that. But I don't understand why they have found this add so offensive. Either way, you can see it online, and hopefully our message of inclusiveness will travel by word of mouth. I encourage anyone and everyone who has an interest to find a UCC church in your area and give it a try.

No matter who you are or where you are on life's journey, you are welcome at the United Church of Christ.

Sadly, NBC & CBS choose not to air our ad of inclusiveness.

Next up for discussion...

"Be who you are and say what you feel cause people who mind don't matter, and people who matter don't mind."
Dr. Seuss
I was informed today that I should consider censoring my blog. "Censor? Why censor it? I'm not going to censor my writing. I haven't even written anything too controversial" I said. At first, Josh was using the excuse that all my posts were "girly." If you want to stick with that word to describe my posts, fine. I admit it, my posts are girly. So sue me! I'm a girl, what do you want?

However, this "girly" word was later turned into the word "slutty." Are my post slutty? Are there people out there so uptight that they find my discussion about hotness scales and prom dates to be indecent or lewd? I hope not...but probably.

"Emily, maybe you should make your post like you were talking to the old women of your church." Hey, I know my church, and I know that what I have written on this blog would be perfectly fine to say to the women there. Apperently Josh has been receiving some emails saying something to the affect of "Whoever that Emoney girl is has dull posts. Her posts make her seem slutty." (If that email is from a guy the next sentence is probably "Is she a slut, and if so, can I have her number?")

Hey, personally, I do not feel that anything I have ever said (err, written) on this blog has been immodest. If I come off in a good or bad light, that is completely up to the reader. Secondly, Josh invited me to help him with his blog. He can uninvite me if he wants; I can stop blogging if I want. However, he though that a blog with both of us would be fun for us, as well as entertaining for readers. When I took him up on his invitation, I was agreeing with him.

Why censor a blog? This blog is at my modestly level. If your modestly level doesn't agree with mine, don't read this blog. Or, don't read the pink entries. No one is making you read. If you have a problem with an entry of mine, don't email Josh, my email address (mazurmuse@bellsouth.net) is on my profile along with AIM screen name (emonee87).

Point is, I write on this blog because it is fun. If I am asked to leave this blog I will, but there is nothing stopping me from creating my own. I will write what I feel is appropriate. I would never write anything to purposefully hurt someone, and I hope I have not done that. Truthfully, I hope I don't give off a slutty tone in my writing. I don't consider myself to be trashy, and I hope no one else sees me in that light.

Now, people have probably found this post slutty/trashy (probably because I was forced to use those words so much).

I am who I am, I write how I write. It's me, this is my post.

On a Happier Note...

On a happier note, I found a prom date! Yay, this is exciting. I am really glad I got a date now (and it's a person I actually know). Proms really gonna be fun this year. I get to go with some of my best friends, some of whom I have known since elementary school. Well, that's all I really have to say on this subject.

Just thought everyone should know.

Not That This Is An Advertisement

This is absolutely frustrating. It's my senior year....that means senior prom....that should mean a hot date. In my case, it means no date. Nope, not a date to be had. Guess it's karma coming back to get me... either that, or pure irony. Yeah, I was offered a date (not to mention any names, Josh) way back when. Actually, it was offered to me several times. But I knew in my heart of hearts it wasn't gonna be a good idea. As Josh told me later, when I was considering taking another guy to prom, "there is no need to lead him on." That was my feeling about each offer. Regardless, I took the second guy up on his offer only to recently find out that his parents would not let him drive all the way down here.

So, I am back at square one. I've asked a few other guys, but prom is either too expensive or they already have plans. With prom coming up on April 23, I am pushing the "find-a-date" time. I already have a group to go with and we have dinner reservations, but I am left without a date.

Guess I will continue to ask more and more guys that I kinda-sorta know until I find someone, or April 23 rolls around. In the second case, I can just do as my good friend
Nate said and sit around and eat lots of chocolate ice cream.

I haven't had ice cream in a while....

Shake, Shake, Shake--Shake your Booty!

Ok, so it wasn't quite like that, but I did just get back home from my first experience with Contra-Dancing. According to Dictonary.com it's "a type of folk dance in which couples are arranged in sets or face one another in a line." Basically, it's a dance you don't need much skill for (because if that wasn't the case, heaven knows I wouldn't be there). They call out what to do during the dance and you even practice it a few times before-hand.

I went with a pretty big group of high schoolers from Mooresville, NC. My friend, Anna, lives there and this morning she called and asked if my mom and I would like to go. They drove about a hour and twenty minutes to get there, but it was only a 40 minute drive from my house.

It was tons of fun and everyone should try it. There is a dance almost every Friday night, you just have to find it. I really think some people from school should get together and all go out dancing one night. You might think it would be weird, but you dance with everyone! You change partners each song and you dance with your neighbors (and everyone rotates so you dance with all your neighbors). Tons of fun! Hey NDHS, when are we gonna go?

The good thing is, next weekend I have
College Orientation and on Friday night they are having contra-dancing. That might be even more fun because I will get to dance with more people my age. I danced with some high school guys tonight, but let me tell ya....the old men were forming a line.

Well, it is late enough, and my feet hurt (did I mention it is great exercise and you get to dress up?). It's time for bed.

PS--It's almost time, don't forget to change those clocks!
