Playing Opossum

I'm back! Yay. You will find my hiatuses generally correspond with some English essay. I felt so much better when I handed in my essay on Friday, even though on Thursday she had given us and extension (till Monday). I was relieved that it was finished, done, and I could look forward to a half-relaxing weekend. I mean, didn't have to work at all on Friday. I only had three morning classes to teach on Saturday and two parties on Sunday (I coach gymnastics and lead birthday parties at a gym, just so you don't wonder). Yeah, that would have been nice if it worked out that way. I was called to work on Friday, despite my attempt to find someone else for them to call, then I worked a party after my classes today. There has been no rest, and that stinks. And this is really boring for you to read.....

On Friday I had a weird high school/
"Throwin' rocks" experience. There was an opossum wandering around outside the school down one breeze-way. My Astronomy class decided to go outside to look at it seeing as we might glance at the sky while we were out there....or something space-y. Well, the opossum made it pretty far down the breeze-way and as we went to see it, some boys came running past us. One boy had kicked the opossum and made 2 of its babies fall out! (I would like to take this time to say that that was really mean and cruel and one of the baby's legs was broken) So our astronomy class tried to corral the mother, but she got away without her babies. We ended up picking up these animals (probably not safe) and putting them in a cage. They were so cute! We learned all about opossums Friday. Did you know that baby opossums can't have cow milk? If you decide to save any opossums in the future, you should give them pedialite, or warm gatoraid. And if they have fur and open eyes (like our 2 babies) you can give them grapes, which I actually had with me that day for lunch.

That was a pretty weird class. Once we got back to the room and put them in a cage we called around and got them a new home at the vet in Welcome. Don't worry, they should be ok. I learned a few things that day: opossums can run really, really quickly (contrary to what the side of the road seems to say) opossums are really cute when they are little, and they don't want to take the Hamlet tests (I'm sure that is what their hissing ment when my English teacher asked them if they would like to take the test). Overall, I just can't believe someone would kick an animal. Infact, I don't think I would want to be getting that close to a nocturnal animal that was out in the middle of the day. Germs, disease, infection!

Ok, so this hasn't been the most enthraling entry, but I knew it had been a while. I am seriously trying hard to keep my eyelids up. Hopefully, I will have some time to post something tomorrow between church and work. What is really exciting is that tomorrow, a prospective minister is coming. He is gonna preach this Sunday and next, but next week is my prom so I don't know if I will make it. After that, we get to vote as a church, and then he either accepts or rejects. I hope that he stays, our poor interum minister has been here over a year... and he retired before I was even born!

Ok, off to bed, really this time.

PS--Carey just reported that she actually saw an opossum run across the road and survive! Amazing!

PPS--"Nate: emily, your blog totally rocks" Thanks Nate!
